Fertilizing shrubs

April is the time to fertilize trees and shrubs. You don't want to fertilize until it starts getting warm.
But do not feed spring-flowering shrubs like azaleas, spirea and rhododendrons until after they have finished flowering. 
Pull mulch away from the shrub or tree before applying the fertilier to avoid it being absorbed into the mulch and not getting to the roots.


Indoor
If you have houseplants that you want to transfer into a new pot, this is the perfect time to do it.  Plants thrive better when they are periodically re-potted with fresh soil...

Outdoor
Hang up your hummingbird feeders in March and clean out your birdfeeders, so that they will be ready for the birds to use.  Remove weeds and other debris from your rock garden...
